Are you an eco-coach, forest bathing guide, nature writer, or do you work in the frontlines of climate action? This course will have you experience the many ways poetry facilitation can enhance your nature-connection practices for yourself and others.
Today, as we confront climate disruption, mass extinctions, and a litany of natural disasters, nature poetry can be a path forward, helping us to weave our consciousness back into right relationship with the earth.
But it isn’t just enough to read a poem to a group or client, good as that may feel. If we are to experience the full impact of poetry, we must learn how to facilitate a poem so that we are changed and transformed by it. This is the heart of the work we will do together.
Poetry facilitation takes practice and needs to be experienced first-hand.
Each 90 minutes session will offer the option of a further 15 minutes for those who want to remain on the call and ask questions.
The flow is as follows:
Session 1: Meeting—How to greet a poem
Session 2: Mood––How to choose a poem
Session 3: Metaphor––The medicine in a poem
Session 4: Meaning and Musicality—The message in a poem
Session 5: Methods and Practices—The many writing techniques available
Session 6: Moving Forward—Integration and Visioning
Throughout, we’ll explore myriad writing techniques, you’ll learn the 4-step process key to all poetry therapy sessions, and you’ll write your own facilitation plan which Mary will review and provide feedback on. You’ll leave feeling confident in your ability to design a session around a poem, or simply use poetry as part of a session. This series counts as 12 hours credits for Ten Directions students.
